Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Update Panel Presentation: Karen Fowler, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Mark Schleiss, University of Minnesota, Janelle Greenlee, Founder StopCMV
Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common congenital viral infection in the United States and is a major cause of childhood hearing loss, vision loss, and cognitive impairment. CMV poses a major public health risk to pregnant women, especially mothers, daycare workers, preschool teachers, therapists, and nurses. Included in this panel presentation will be the latest results of the NIDCD CMV and Hearing Multicenter Screening (CHIMES) national multi-center study, a discussion of the feasibility of CMV screening as adjunct to newborn hearing screening, and the family perspective of having a child with congenital CMV.
