Advanced Pediatric Audiology: Evaluating the Hearing of Infants and Toddlers

Idaho's Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program and the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) are partnering to offer a new training opportunity for audiologists. This instruction will be an advance workshop on the assessment of hearing loss in infants and toddlers. Six weeks of online preparation readings and weekly chats will prepare the student for this 3 day, onsite workshop at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Hotel.

Online Instruction is required before attending On-site training

Weekly readings and online chats will increase theoretical and clinical knowledge. The reading list includes current relevant information regarding diagnostics, behavioral assessment, and intervention with infants and young children.

Workshop Details:

All participants will be asked to participate in a conference call before the start of the online instruction. During that call, students will be introduced to their online mentor and briefed on procedures for the online chats.

Topics to be covered during the onsite workshop will include:

  • Evaluating and Management of Infants with Complex Medical Needs
  • Evidence based Protocols for infants and toddlers
  • Amplification Verification/ Validation
  • Where are we now? New evidence for ABR Clicks, Frequency Specific Tone Burst, ASSR, CHIRP and Bone conduction
  • Informed Choice for Families
  • When is it time to Consider Cochlear Implants?

Chat Room Dates:

Exact day and time will be arranged to meet the needs of the participants. Weeks of January 30th – March 6th, 2017 - Online.

Online Quiz:

The online quiz will be available at the end of the week of March 6th, 2017, the week before the onsite workshop. Participants who are familiar with the material in the readings and have participated in the chats should have no difficulty passing this quiz.

Technical Assistance:

You will be provided with a link and telephone number to assist you with any computer related problems or questions. You can contact your online mentor for questions regarding workshop content or materials.

There will also be leading manufacturers of Audiology equipment available to generously provide hands-on opportunities with clinical diagnostic equipment.

Hands-on Experience:

Breakout hands-on sessions will afford you the opportunity to apply procedures discussed during the didactic sessions. Equipment specialists and mentors will be available to help guide you.

Registration Fee:

This workshop is open to all Audiologists; however, the registration fee of $125.00 will be waived for the first 25 Idaho Audiologists that register on a first come first serve basis. Included with the first 25 Idaho Audiologists that register will be a 3 nights stay at the Resort Hotel in which the conference will take place.

All other Audiologists that register will pay a $125. Registration fee and will receive one free night hotel stay for each registration. The final two nights will be the responsibility of the participant. Hotel costs have been lowered for this workshop and will be $111.87/ night for the Resort hotel.

Included with the registration are 6 weeks of online chats, 3 days onsite training (breakfast and lunch included) at the Coeur d’Alene resort hotel. Audiologists will be required to attend all 3 days of the on-site workshop in Coeur d’Alene if registration is accepted.

American Academy of Audiology (AAA), Continuing Education Credits

AAA CEU American Academy of Audiology (AAA) CEUs are pending and will be available for this course, 28 hours (2.8 CEUs). Instructional level for this course is: Intermediate level. The National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) out of Utah State University is approved by the American Academy of Audiology to offer Academy CEUs for this activity.

Arrangements for hotel rooms are at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Hotel: Registration is made through the registration process. Do not contact the hotel directly.
